Thursday     January 22, 2026      6:30 pm

Family pictures are more than a photograph of a loved one; each image is a historical document. These photographs reflect history, they inform us, they change our impressions of our ancestors and tell the story of our family’s past. Yet, many family photograph collections remain tucked away in the basement or attic. Join Heather Stone Potter, Curator of Manuscripts, and former Curator of Photographs & Prints at The Filson Historical Society to learn more about how to get started with selecting, organizing, and caring for your family photograph collection and learn some valuable research tools along the way.

Charles Hartley
Bullitt County Public Historian and Author

Thursday      July 23, 2026      6:30 pm

In 1890, plans were made by businessmen from Jefferson and Bullitt Counties to extend a new railway line from Louisville through Mt. Washington and on to Smithville at Salt River. By an Act of the General Assembly they were incorporated as the Louisville Southeastern Railroad Company, and given the authority to issue bonds to raise a million and a half dollars for this project. So what happened? Why would Mt. Washington be one of the few communities in the region not to have rail service? Join us to learn more about this railway that would never be.
